US Highway 2

Joseph has worked with City Staff and Council to formulate solutions to the traffic issues pertaining to US Highway 2. Joseph has pushed for a number of must haves including 4 lane bridge replacements over the Sultan River and Wagley Creek. The City has made some progress with WADOT supporting and funding the first 2 lane round about at Old Owens road. Further funding is required which is why Joseph has traveled to Olympia to lobby for funding. Although unsuccessful in 2023, we will continue to request and apply for funding to fix US HIghway 2.

Growth

Understanding the States Growth Management Act, Sultan must continue growing to receive support from the state. Necessary growth does not mean unrestricted growth. Joseph has taken firm stances on improvements to current development regulations such as minimum lot sizes, road widths, eliminating future private roads, adding larger green spaces, trails and parks. We can apply what has been learned to the Comprehensive Plan and Housing Action Plan accordingly.

Open Spaces

As the City grows, so does the need for open spaces. Joseph has made a top priority to develop City owned properties into open spaces for the public commonly referred to as parks. Joseph is proud to have participated in lobbying efforts that have secured $500,000 in State funding to transform the Hammer property located off the Sultan Basin Road. Joseph has also voted to assign ARPA funds to develop a property on Alder St into an additional park. Joseph has suggested more street gathering events and applied ARPA dollars to tables, chairs, and barricades for future events.
